Biography

Katie is the oldest daughter of Amy Van Fossen.  She is a Brevard County native who graduated cum laude from Florida State University College of Law in December of 2018.   In the summer after her first year of law school, Katie interned with Honorable Chief Judge Tonya Rainwater of the 18th Judicial Circuit.  In the summer after her second year of law school, Katie interned as a Certified Legal Intern with the Juvenile Division of the State Attorney’s Office for the 18th Judicial Circuit.  During law school, Katie was a member of the Trial Team.  In her last year of law school, her team attended the Buffalo-Niagara Mock Trial Tournament, one of the biggest national invitational mock trial tournaments in the country, where they made it to the quarter-final round.  She was also a member of the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Society and earned the Book Award for the highest grade in Estate Planning.

Growing up, Katie was an avid soccer player.  She played locally on state championship winning teams for Satellite High School as well as for coach Fidgi Haig’s Indialantic Force club team.  During high school, she received various honors including Florida’s Gatorade Player of the Year and Florida Today Player of the Year. After high school, she earned a full athletic and academic scholarship to play soccer at the University of Central Florida.  She captained the team in her junior and senior seasons, leading the team to the NCAA Division I Elite 8 in her senior season.  She received various honors including All Conference-USA First Team before graduating with a degree in Biology from UCF’s Burnett Honors College. 

After college, she taught Biology, Integrated Science, and Leadership Skills for one year at Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Florida.  During this time, she coached the high school girl’s lacrosse team and also coached a local youth girls’ soccer team.  After this year, she moved abroad to Switzerland to play professional soccer where her team finished the season as the Swiss Cup Finalist.  She then moved to New Zealand, where her team won the national championship.  There she also worked one-on-one as a Teacher’s Aide with students from the special needs classes at a local high school, coached a high school girls’ soccer team, and waitressed at a local pub.

Katie is a member of the Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Society, Elder Law Society, and Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar.   She is also a member of the Young Lawyers Division of the Brevard County Bar Association and is a member of the Vassar B. Carlton American Inn of Court.  

She currently lives beachside with her husband, daughter, and two rescue dogs.  In addition to spending time with friends and family, she enjoys yoga and teaches a power yoga class at The Yogi Perogi yoga studio in Melbourne, Florida.
